Gender Equality Bill

The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed discontent over the recent rejection of the Gender Equality Bill by the senate.

Ifeyinwa Omowole, NAWOJ national president expressed her sadness on the issue saying, it is the third time the national assembly would be rejecting similar bills seeking equity for women.

NAWOJ particularly offered thanks to Senate President, Bukola Saraki for his support of the bill, urging him to put to use his office to influence his colleagues.

A concluding statement noted:"The Gender Equality Bill is not a battle of the sexes, it is not a bill that removes submissiveness of women to their husbands, neither is it a bill that seeks to erode the responsibility of the woman in her home. It only seeks to give the woman more opportunity to assist herself and the man in the home. It is a bill that benefits the man even more than the woman. "
