Indications have shown that there is a serious epidemic outbreak among the internally displaced persons from Agatu LGA. The state government provided a camp housing for the displaced Agatu residents who number over 2,000. The facility which houses over 800 women and girls, close to 850 children and about 200 men and boys was discovered to have just two toilet facilities.
This has resulted to the inmates defecating in nearby bushes, drainage channels and trenches thereby exposing themselves to health hazards.
The camp coordinator, Mr Emmanuel Onah said the camp inmates are faced with lack of medical care, food, water supply and security. He further mentioned that the other three Agatu IDP camps located at Ojantele, Ataganyi and Ugbokpo were also faced with same challenges. He also requested individuals and organizations to support the state's Emergency Management Agency to help meet with the needs of the IDP's.
